Across the nation, industry trade shows report dramatic increases in traffic during January. Exhibitors also report taking more and larger orders.
Dallas Market Center, which had its Winter show Jan. 18-24, says retailers had strong holiday sales and that created demand for new product. "A record number of new and expanded exhibitors were matched by gains in attendance across key buying segments,” said Bill Winsor, president and CEO, Dallas Market Center. "In fact, this part of the U.S. has experienced more than 18 months of retail sales growth, which has stimulated all facets of the retail economy. We anticipate a banner 2012 as exhibitors reinvest in the marketplace and as retailers keep pace with rising consumer demand.” (full news release)
On the West Coast, the California Gift Show, also Jan. 18-24, saw similar increased activity. “Showrooms and exhibitors witnessed a phenomenal and sustained attendance of new and returning buyers from across the country and around the globe, proving Los Angeles rules as a must-shop destination for innovative, in-demand California-made products and resources both nationally and internationally revered,” said Mark Furlet, vice president, gift + home, California Gift Show/L.A. The Chicago Market is reporting its best January Market (Jan. 19-25) in recent years with a double-digit increase in attendance over last year. “We are way ahead of last year and very optimistic about 2012," said Brad Peterson, owner and market director Peterson Associates. "We were so pleased with the turnout at this Market; our 50th Anniversary celebration on Saturday night was truly a night to remember.” (full news release)
Atlanta's AmericasMart saw similar increases in buyer traffic and non-stop order writing. “This Market will go on record as defining the renewal and recovery of global retailing as buyers and sellers vote with their feet, and their order writing, in an event destined to help restore hope and promise to retailers and manufacturers everywhere,” according to Jeffrey L. Portman, Sr., president and chief operating officer. At close of Market business on Saturday, Jan. 18, Atlanta’s January traffic was posting high double-digit growth reflecting surging southeastern traffic gains and large increases in a national buyer population representing top Northeastern, Midwestern, Pacific and Southwestern specialty-store retailers, plus a large and growing international buyer contingent. RICHMOND - February 15, 2012 - Calypso Studios introduced their newest product during the January show circuit. While the product was not available to ship until recently, many styles of the new Bendi-Bandz were sold out by the time the product arrived at the warehouse on February 3. To date, Calypso Studios has sold 25,000 Bendi-Bandz.
Calypso employees demonstrated the benefits of Bendi-Bandz at each show the company attended in January. For buyers who were not able to attend such shows, Calypso Studios uploaded a variety of “how to” videos on YouTube. These videos explain the Bendi-Bandz and demonstrate several ways to wear.
While all of the 14 styles are out of stock, Calypso Studios expects to receive their next shipment of Bendi-Bandz before the end of the month. The next shipment will include over 27,000 of the new accessory, almost 1/3 of which are already allocated to retail locations throughout the country.
What are Bendi-Bandz?
Calypso Studios’ newest fashion accessory, Bendi-Bandz are flexible and versatile headbands. A bendable wire runs from one end to the other and is sewn inside patterned fabric. The user can simply twist the headband into place, and it will hold all day. The thin inner wire keeps the desired shape and makes it adjustable for any head size.
