The New Year marks the beginning of the Winter Trade Show season, and 2012's scheduled shows and events promise to serve every need. With trade shows large and small occuring across the country, there is bound to be one near you. Here's a sampling:
Returning to the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center from January 7-10, 2012, the Philadelphia Gift Show will focus on a variety of product sectors, including Handcrafted, Home Accents, Birdwatch & Outdoor Living, Made In The USA and Souvenir & Resort. "The Philadelphia Gift Show has always been home to thousands of the industry's main lines and top regional sales representative groups", says Doug Miller, president, Urban Expositions. "And the winter edition is no exception. We strive to put together the most comprehensive grouping of product for the buyers from the Mid-Atlantic and Tri-state region. From tabletop to greeting cards, gifts to gardening, retailers are sure to find what they need to restock their shelves after the busy holiday season.
Atlanta's AmericasMart will feature a Lawn & Garden Symposium and Al Fresco Dinner featuring leading garden and retail experts from around the U.S. These highly interactive roundtables are all aimed at delivering practical tips and advice on a variety of topics. Slated for Sat., Jan. 14, at 5 p.m. in Building 2 WestWing, Floors 9 and 10. Industry experts will host a table and, in a manner similar to "speed dating", lead a discussion of 10 topics - six minutes per topic. It's all part of The Atlanta International Gift and Home Furnishings Market Jan. 11-18 (Temporaries: Jan. 13-17), with the Atlanta International Area Rug Market featuring the National Oriental Rug Show taking place Jan. 12-15 (Temporaries: Jan. 13-15).
On the other side of the country, the Washington State Convention Center hosts the Seattle Gift Show earlier than usual, Jan. 14-17. The Show spotlights Birdwatch America West, Food Focus, Gifts & Collectibles, Handcrafted, Home & Garden, Northwest Directions, Personal Style, Treasures To Go (Cash & Carry), Vintage Collection, and Village Arts. "As we prepare to kick off the 2012 show season on the West Coast, the Seattle Gift Show is focusing on bringing together the most comprehensive product selection for our Pacific Northwest retailer," explains Doug Miller, president, Urban Expositions. "From our dedication to showcasing the best in earth-friendly and green products, to bringing in the best in birding and outdoor nature items, our goal is to provide the area retailers with everything they need to start 2012 off right."
In the Windy City, the The Chicago Market announced innovative new product displays and a full schedule of educational, informative and inspirational programming for their 2012 Winter Market Jan. 19-24. One example of the many educational opportunities at the Chicago show is "Visual Merchandising Tips & Tricks" with Bethany Lowe, founder of Bethany Lowe Designs, Inc., & Mick Santiago. Scheduled for Monday, Jan. 23, attendees will learn how successful retailers tell their story through displays & artful merchandising. Other features will be "Floral Industry Trends" with Bob Williams, president, Society of American Florists and "
FLOWERS...The Life of the Party!!..." with Tim Farrell, one of the design team which creates floral designs for the Oscar Awards Show.
In the heartland, Dallas Market Center's FINDS Temp Show will be Jan. 20-23. FINDS will continue providing handmade and vintage product with the debut of the brand new category Vintage Home FINDS in Market Hall (North Hall) featuring vintage and antique-looking furniture and decor. Handmade & Vintage FINDS on the World Trade Center 13th floor and the French Market section of Cash & Carry FINDS in Market Hall (Main Hall) will again be available to buyers that carry apparel, gifts, and more. The FINDS Dallas Temp Show is held in conjunction with the Dallas Total Home & Gift Market (January 18-24).
In New York City, "Driven by Design" is the emphasis at the New York International Gift Fair, Jan. 28-Feb. 2. "Design is a common denominator among all of NYIGF's ten divisions and a key differentiator from other U.S. gift, home and lifestyle markets," said Dorothy Belshaw, NYIGF director and George Little Management senior vice president. "This new campaign allows us to showcase NYIGF's design orientation beyond Accent on Design and Handmade - both widely recognized for their superlative aesthetics - into NYIGF divisions which are categorized by product type." 35,000 attendees from all 50 states and more than 80 countries worldwide are expected to attend.
For the second year in a row, the Interior Design Society has selected Las Vegas Design Center as the host site for their 2012 National Leadership Conference, Jan. 27-29, to coincide with the upcoming Winter 2012 Las Vegas Market, Jan. 30-Feb. 3. "Synchronizing our National Leadership Conference with Las Vegas Market gives attendees an excellent opportunity to not only participate in IDS' top annual event, but also attend the premier west coast market for furniture, gift and home decor," said Pamela White, chief executive officer for IDS. "We are thrilled to once again partner with Las Vegas Design Center for this conference to deliver important and relevant content to our members."
The San Francisco International Gift Fair returns February 18-21 to Moscone Center's South Hall with a giant selection of top name manufacturers, innovative newcomers and cutting edge designs. Among the highlights, Urban Expositions has announced plans to launch a new Tabletop, Gourmet & Housewares section at the winter show. "Western Region retailers will benefit from a giant opportunity for a more efficient buying trip when they visit the show in February," said Doug Miller, President, Urban Expositions. "For the first time all of the gift industry resources in the west will be housed inside Moscone Center. Further strengthening this growing selection, we're also filling a void in the marketplace with the launch of a brand new Tabletop, Gourmet and Housewares."
