OmegaNet Was Green Before Being Green Was Cool! These days it's easy to get trampled in the rush of companies to be "Green". Even oil companies are touting their "greenness" by spotlighting efforts to develop alternative forms of energy. But OmegaNet Inc., which founded GiftsWholesale.Com and its cousins, DecorWholesale.Com, AccessoriesWholesale.Com, ToysWholesale.Com and ApparelWholesale.Biz, was already "being green" without even knowing how important it would become. For 10 years, OmegaNet Inc. has been building B2B websites for the wholesale industry with CAMEO EZ© software that enables retail stores to see a vendor's products and order them online. Now, a couple of trends have developed that are changing the way vendors and their retail store customers do business. First, printed catalogs have been a staple of the wholesale trade for as long as anyone can remember, but there may be a change in the wind. Concern about the prodigious use of paper, as well as the expense of producing and mailing thousands of catalogs each year, has led a few vendors to forego printing a catalog, preferring to direct customers to their web catalog, which could be either a PDF document or an online ordering catalog. In both cases the customer has the option of printing the page on their own office printer if they want hard copy of a product picture. Second, the high price of gasoline is taking its toll on trade show attendance this summer. Both Dallas and Atlanta reported drastically reduced traffic and the conventional wisdom would assign the blame on virtually doubled travel expenses from a year ago. But retail stores are still ordering product on the websites of the CAMEO EZ family everyday, every night and on weekends and holidays. While an online catalog with ordering capability cannot take the place of seeing first hand and touching new products at a trade show, placing reorders of familiar products on a website uses a lot less gasoline --or jet fuel-- than going to a show! Sterling Goes the Extra Mile to Gain Exposure in AtlantaSterling's "Ad On Wheels" appeared for six days during the Atlanta Show. ATLANTA-- Sterling Industries, the Norcross, GA-based home accents company, used the power of advertising to get the word out at AmericasMart in Atlanta this summer. Sterling, a company know for their unique and distinctive marketing efforts, utilized elevator doors, lobby floors and a billboard truck to convey their show specials at market. The billboard truck was a first for Sterling. The 22 ft. x 10 ft. “ad on wheels” encircled the AmericasMart campus for six days during the market. “We wanted to take advantage of the incredible pedestrian traffic in Atlanta,” said Sterling CEO and Founder John Scott. “The billboard truck made heads turn and helped Sterling gain exposure.” The combination of print advertising in show daily publications and promotional signage inside the mart on elevator doors and on lobby floors also helped Sterling get the word out. As a result, the company saw a noticeable increase in new customers placing orders. “The number of orders from new customers almost doubled from our forecast,” said Sterling Sales Manager Nancy E. Palenski. “It was a great show for us and proves the power of advertising when done effectively.” Sterling has featured some their Atlanta marketing efforts in a fun, 1-minute movie clip which they have posted on their web site. Lydecker, VH1 Sustainability Advisor knows that even small changes can make a big difference in reducing waste and promoting re-use and recycling. Setting up an extravaganza like the July 17th VH1 Rock Honors awards requires weeks of hot, sweaty work, and the people who do that work need plenty of hydration. In the past, this has resulted in hundreds of abandoned half-finished bottles of water, as workers dash from one task to another. "We are setting up water stations, Lydecker explained, but our crew members need the portability of taking a bottle with them as they work." Lydecker teamed up with sponsor Glaceau® Smart Water® to provide the liquid refreshment, and BOLEO® provided the crew with Hold Your Water® bottle clips. The clips snap onto the neck of any standard water bottle or soft drink, and then clip to belt loops, back pack straps, etc. "Because they can hang onto their bottles, Lydecker said, they can refill at the water stations and reuse the bottles multiple times." Deco Breeze® offers a New Way to "Be Green" and "Save Some Green" During the Hot Days of Summer. Fans are rated to use less electricity than a light bulb. Using anywhere from 500 to 3500 watts per hour, air conditioners consume a substantial amount of energy, and result in high utility bills for homeowners and businesses. But Deco Breeze® indoor portable fans are rated at 45 watts per hour at maximum speed (using less energy than a light bulb) and create enough air movement in a room to make it feel up to 10 degrees cooler. With its use, comfort can be maintained for up to a 3% reduction in energy consumption for every one-degree increase in thermostat settings! According to the company's Vice President of Sales, Jeff Amon, "Deco Breeze is committed to providing its customers with a way to conserve energy while keeping their environments comfortable. With more than 160 designer styles, customers can prominently place Deco Breeze fans within homes and offices for year-round use and produce significant energy and cost savings."
